Apprehension of fugitives from justice papers, 1856-1859.

These papers document the actions or petitions for actions by Governor Charles Morehead to bring about the apprehension of fugitives from justice. Included are requests to the governor for: warrants on those who jump bail; rewards to be offered for fugitives; and extraditions of Kentucky fugitives from other states. Also included are copies of pertinent indictments and case histories, among them a Meade County case in which a man crossed the Ohio River from Indiana, released an inmate from the jail at gunpoint, then escaped back across the river.
